Fifty-one year old Murphy Tease, a riveter for the construction company, was working 40 feet above the concrete when he fell to the ground, causing him to lose consciousness, and suffer a broken arm, three broken ribs, a fractured leg and a concussion. The main factors causing him to fall were the slippery beam on which he was standing and the strong winds which caused him to lose his balance.
In anticipations of accidents of this nature, the city's building department had instructed the construction company to install safety lines, which builders could hold onto if they feared falling. Although a week had passed since this order, the safety lines were still absent when Tease was working, and he had nothing to grab onto when he slipped on the wet beam.
Tease is in satisfactory condition at St. Luke's hospital, and it is unknown if he has any plans to sue the construction company or Bomasso Engineering Co.
